Senator Whitmire bragged about voting against a bill that would have required camera approval by the citizens at the ballot box through a public vote. He was quoted after the defeat as saying;
"That booger is dead. We just gave it a proper burial"
On Tuesday January 10, 2012 Senator Whitmire was interviewed on the Matt Patrick show on 740 AM and asked about how the state is holding the camera money instead of sending it to the trauma centers. Matt asked Whitmire about his vote blocking legislation that would have required a vote BEFORE Houston installed red light cameras. Whitmire describes how Mayor Bill White worked with him to make compromises on the safe clear program and Whitmire worked to block the bill mayor White was afraid of, a bill requiring a public vote before he could install the cameras. Whitmire also admits he has believed the programs are more about money than safety and many of the violations are for non dangerous violations. You can listen to the audio HERE

Note; it is particularly curious that Senator Gallegos would protect an Arizona based Goldman Sachs owned camera company knowing his constituents well voiced opinions on Arizona's immigration policy.
Dallas Area
All across Texas you will find pro camera politicians. Most of them are in the senate. It should be no surprise that most of the lobbying money from camera companies goes to the senate. But there are members of the house that are pro camera. The Dallas area politicians that support the Australian or Arizona camera companies over our safety are;

If it wasn't for RINO Harper-Brown slipping in hidden language in a bill that authorized camera in Texas we wouldn't have to fight them city by city. Harper-Brown has also had a bribery complaint against her for driving a 2010 Mercedes paid for by red light camera money. You can read about it HERE

Senators Carona and Watson have opposed legislation to ban red light cameras at every step. It is no wonder that both of them receive tens of thousands in contributions from the camera industry and their lobbyists. Read more HERE Senator Watson is also on the Senate Transportation Committee that has consistently blocked legislation that would eliminate or ban red light cameras in Texas.
